This illustration of Jackson Ward district of Richmond, Virginia was completed by hand and with watercolors as a part of my second series of Richmond illustrations. I was inspired to create this by my experience living in Richmond, by the responses and requests from my customers and by the strength these businesses have embodied in order to survive the pandemic, in turn keeping our city an exciting and innovative place to live. Our community as a whole as well as our communities of individual neighborhoods, as small businesses, artists, essential and non-essential workers have all been strengthened through the challenges presented by the pandemic and I want celebrate that through art.
This print features the following notable sites and businesses of Jackson Ward= Saison, Urban Hang Suite, The Richmond Dairy, Soul Taco, Big Herm's Kitchen, Maggie Walker Historic Site, Mama J's Stoplight Gelato, Jamaica House, Adarra, JKogi, the Hippodrome, the Black History Museum, Lucy's Saadia's Juice Box, Bill Bojangles Robinson Statue and Ebenezer Baptist Church.
