Tips for Gift Giving

When it comes to gift giving, we all want our gifts to  be  thoughtful, tasteful, and creative.  Sometimes we just end up stumped, and the beautiful art of gift giving becomes stressful. In an effort to relieve that stress and help you enjoy your holiday season, we have gathered some great gift giving tips for you!

  1. Carefully listen to the person to whom you are giving your gift. You’ll be amazed at the ideas you can come up with when you stop and listen. Laurie Marshall, a member of the management team at Tweed , keeps a list on her phone throughout the year….recording  gift hints that she hears from friends and family throughout the year.  She always seems so relaxed---and now we know why!
  2. Give gifts that reflect THEIR personal style, not yours.
  3. It’s not about the amount of money you spend on a gift, but rather it’s about the intention with which you give the gift. You can find a cute and unique serving bowl for under $18.  Add your favorite crab dip recipe on a cute recipe card with a note about why it is your favorite, and you have a thoughtful gift for under $20!
  4. Make it personal! A monogrammed or personalized gift shows you put a lot of time and planning into their gift.  At Tweed, you can get a personalized gift in 24-48 hours!
  5. Never hesitate to ask for help from the sales associates in the store where you are shopping. They are most familiar with the inventory in the store and may be able to suggest a gift idea that you had overlooked. They also do this every day and have (and hear) some great ideas.  At Tweed, we love that part of our job!
  6. Be prepared…It can be really uncomfortable when a friend arrives with an unexpected gift. Always have a few “extra” gifts under the tree that are some of YOUR favorite things.  Maybe you don’t yet know who the lucky recipient will be, but you are giving someone the gift of something you love and want to share!
  7. It’s great to give a gift card. The misconception that gift cards are thoughtless is absolutely not true!  A gift card is an invitation for your gift recipients to spend time shopping for themselves! What a gift!
  8. If you choose to give an item instead of a gift card, include a gift receipt. It takes the guilt away from the recipient when they swap out that great necklace that is exactly your taste, and not exactly their taste.
  9. Remember that presentation matters. You spend time and money picking out that perfect gift.  Take time to make sure you wrap it with the same amount of beauty as the thought you put into buying.  At Tweed, making gifts fun is serious business, which is why we offer complimentary giftwrap on every gift, even if it's a gift for yourself!  It’s one less thing for you to worry about….and it will look fun and fabulous!
  10. Relax, have fun and don’t forget to “gift yourself”! You deserve a treat after a long day of shopping!

Have a Merry Christmas from all of us at Tweed!!
